Environmental and Jewish Education Camp

Camp Amir will be a Jewish, pluralistic overnight camp in the Negev.  Its goal is twofold.  First and foremost, Camp Amir’s mission is to foster an opportunity for Jewish children across the world to create a sustainable relationship with the land of Israel and with Judaism.  When our campers leave, they will carry a stronger sense of Jewish identity and understanding of Israel.  Through interacting with both religious and secular Jews, our campers will have a greater appreciation for religious diversity and toleration.

Second, Camp Amir’s goal is to cultivate the Negev.  Following the dream of Israel’s first Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, we believe that in order to further the state of Israel’s development, we must “make the desert bloom.”  Comprising of over 60% of Israel’s geographic region, the Negev only holds 10% of the Israeli population.  We believe that in order to strengthen Israel’s  standing and secure its existence,  Israelis must use all of the Negev’s resources.  We want Camp Amir to revolutionize the way Jews see the Negev and the way the world approaches environmental development in seemingly barren regions.  Our hope is that Camp Amir will be a model for building environmentally friendly communities in the desert.

Camp Amir is currently working on a summer program in Yerucham. Stay tuned for updates on the amazing work being done there.
